In 2017 the Sustainability index experts evaluated Cēsu alus, the biggest brewery producing beer in Latvia, with the highest assessment for a sustainable business – the Platinum category. The Platinum category assessment confirms the high level of social responsibility culture and the sustainability performance of the company, as well as openness and transparency in its actions and communication.

On 1st of June in the ceremony where the participants of the Sustainability Index were awarded, the performance of Cēsu alus was particularly appreciated by receiving the Free Trade Union Confederation of Latvia Award for contribution to development of the social dialogue. Eva Sietiņsone, the Chairman of the Board of Cēsu alus, was awarded by Director General of Employers’ Confederation of Latvia (LDDK) Līga Meņģelsone – Eva Sietinsone received Sustainable leader award for her responsible, sustainable and strategic leadership of company Cēsu alus.
Eva Sietiņsone, Chairman of the Board of Cēsu alus: “Aspects of social responsibility are considered in our company for many years now, and we’ve had the determination to improve the performance of the company in long-term and encourage cooperation and dialogue, as well as being socially responsible towards all our stakeholders – our employees, customers and partners, the local community – Cēsis, and society as a whole. We are pleased to see that our care and achievements are recognised and awarded. We are proud that we not only create a sustainable company, but also form a sustainable beer industry in Latvia. As the biggest brewery producing beer in Latvia, we are a significant company not only for the region, but also for Latvian economy.”
Cēsu Alus participates in the Sustainable Index assessment since its inception in Latvia in 2010. In the first three years Cēsu alus was awarded with the Silver category, however, due to determined work to develop performance of the company and its sustainability, since 2013 the company has been awarded with the Golden category, and in 2017- the Platinum category.
The Sustainability Index is an internationally recognised strategic management tool that helps Latvian companies to diagnose the sustainability of their businesses and the level of corporate responsibility. Partners of this initiative are as follows: Institute for Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility, Employers’ Confederation of Latvia and Free Trade Union Confederation of Latvia. The Platinum level is received by companies that have completely integrated corporate responsibility in their activity, they systematically gather data and asses their impact. Companies communicate about their actions and demonstrate high level of transparency and integrate their stakeholders.
